The Buckeyes start to leaf out about mid February, as do the almonds start to bloom in the Valley.

This lets us know that Spring is around the corner. The daffodils, iris and lilac should be close behind.

Plan ahead for a special event: A Casino Night!!

"Howdy Fandango fans; FRIENDS (FriendsofColumbiaSHP.org) is sponsoring a Casino Night on March 29th, 2008 called

Columbia's Gold Rush Fandango and Birthday Ball to celebrate Columbia's 157th Birthday (March 27th, 1850) on a Saturday night from 6PM to 11:00PM.

Period Gaming at various locations. It is planned to cover town with this casino night. Some businesses may be open as well as a demonstration dance at the Eagle Cottage (only available building). A special guest appearance of Lola Motez as she does her Spider Dance and other titillating performances. Possible Silent auction and a "LIVE" Auction planned as well.

Costumes encouraged (1799 to 1899) or come as you are. Live Musicians playing real music with real instruments.
