July 2010
We've had a cool, wet spring, and we're still awaiting the warm temperatures. People are anxious to "get out" and are making reservations. Please be sure to get your reservations in, if you're planning to visit us! The 4th of July is filling fast, but we still have a few spaces.
In addition to our valued work family, Ralph's family is now working at the park. Esther Osborne, Ralph's daughter is the General manager. Esther has spent the last 12 years as the Office Manager for Foster Dairy Farms. Bring your family to meet our Marble Quarry family. Bring the family dog, too!
We have a new freezer full of ice cream and micro-waveable goodies. When you go out for the day to explore the area, why come back and need to cook? We have Marie Calendars' Chicken Pot Pies, Burritos, Cheeseburgers, Chicken Breast Sandwiches, and other items. We also have Chili, Tuna, Peanut Butter, Marshmallows, Cookies, Trail Mix, Chips, Candy and Otis Spunkmeyer Muffins. Use our micro wave or yours.
We have added more seating, tables and landscaping to the porch in front of the office. Sit there or in our lounge, to eat your lunch or dinner, and/or enjoy your ice cream treat. It is also a good way to meet and greet new or old friends.
We now have free high speed broadband wireless @ 300 times the previous speed. It covers the entire park. Get your code in the office at registration.
We will be having a booth at the California State Fair on July 24th-27th, to commemorate the Spirit of Camping. Ask us for a "scratcher" (before then), so you might win one of the many prizes (including an RV) to be won in the raffle at the fair.

July 4th, Sun, COLUMBIA'S 4TH OF JULY CELEBRATION
Celebrate our nation's birthday the old-fashioned way! Come to Columbia State Historic Park on the 4th of July and participate in the many activities the 49ers enjoyed way back
when, including a glorious parade up Main Street at noon. Enter yourself and your loved ones in the parade and feel the history!
Folks in Columbia began the 4th of July parade tradition in 1852.
In addition to the parade, listen to the Great Mother Lode Brass & Reed Band concert, dance in the street, and try your skill at the many contests popular in the early days of Columbia. The kids will enjoy trying to climb the greased pole, hunting for a needle in the haystack, and participating in the bucket brigade and the cake walk.
Other contests for kids of all ages include nail pounding, watermelon and pie eating, egg relay race and egg toss, and a five-way tug-of-war.
The parade and concert are free, and entering the contests only costs a buck.
Finally, to top off your day, a tri tip barbecue dinner will be served at 4:00 p.m. Barbecue tickets are $8 for adults and $5 for children under 10. Come early for the best parking and bring lawn chairs.
The festivities will begin with a flag raising and firing of the cannon at 10:00 a.m. For more information, call 209-536-1672.
